It was always a dream of mine to visit Althorp and see the childhood ancestral home of Princess Diana. Little did I envisage that I would be there in the capacity of a photography team shooting an ultra glam wedding of two people very much in love. About to get married on the same spot where Earl Spencer himself stood to take Karen Gordon as his wife in 2011.
Althorp House is set amidst the lush Northamptonshire countryside. The large black formidable black gates open up to acres of beauty. A drive down the gravelled path brings you up to a house of spectacular proportions and beauty. All I could think was ‘this is where she ran around as a child’
As we unpacked our gear in the most fabulous dining room, which housed a chest owned by George Washington, I knew this would not be a normal wedding. Encountering Earl Spencer solidified this surreal experience
I digress. Back to the reason we were there. The wedding. It wasn't just a wedding but 2 days of incredible celebrations where two families united. re
Day one was all about the family. The Nikah, an islamic ceremony uniting the couple was performed in the grand gallery. The juxtaposition of the Spencer ancestors and the Islamic Nikah ritual was a real moment.
Foiz and Sukaina met in the final year of their medical degrees and within a short period of time they knew that their lives would be forever interwined. One without the other was not a reality either wanted nor could they live with. Together they knew that they could build a very bright future.
The wedding was a fairytale glamorous affair under the watchful eye of Princess Diana.
It was broken down in two days.
The first day was the preparation for the nikah. Which was an incredibly beautiful and glamorous affair. As Sukaina walked down the aisle with her sisters and seated herself in the love seat, her mother and grandmother wiped tears of joy. The ceremony was beautiful.
The glamour factor at this wedding was on pointe. From the gowns to the decor which was gorgeously curated by the incredibly talented Zibbi @ dream occassionz.
Dinner was the icing on the cake. A spectacular sit down dinner where every single person was there for the gorgeous bride. The speeches were emotional and I felt the love each person felt for Sukaina - a woman who was clearly an important component of her families fabric.
Day two began in a super relaxed informal way. Games from boules, archery, lawn tennis was set up and the guests flowed between the games enjoying the summer sun.
The afternoon was the civil ceremony. Sukaina married Foiz, on the same staircase where Earl Spencer married his wife under the watchful eye of the Queen of hearts.
The civil ceremony was elegant, followed by an ever more elegant drinks reception and dinner.
